The Benefits of Burning a Soy Wax Candle and Why You Should Choose Soy

This Christmas, we launched our very first Victoria Eggs luxury candle.

Burning a candle in your home brings feelings of warmth and relaxation, along with filling the room with a wonderful scent. After searching for the perfect candle, I landed upon a family run business based in Hampshire, who make hand-poured luxury soy wax candles who were able to fill our hand-crafted fine bone china votives.

Whilst scent and aroma are important, they shouldn’t be the only factor to consider when choosing a candle, here’s a little more about the benefits of soy wax and what makes our candle so special.

The Benefits of Soy Wax Candles

Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans, which means that it is 100% natural, renewable, environmentally friendly and sustainable. Soy wax is a carbon neutral product which means that it does not impact the environment in any negative way.

Soy candles are made from completely natural materials that are biodegradable, non-toxic and non-carcinogenic. Soybeans are grown without pesticides or herbicides and are also vegan-friendly.

Soy wax emits a clean burn which means no black soot on your walls! Being a natural material, it is considered non-toxic, they are created with a cleaner ingredient list than a normal paraffin wax candle making them better for your own well being. Other types of wax often contain chemical fragrances which some find induce headaches. Paraffin wax gives off carcinogens when burned.

Soy wax has been discovered to burn 40 - 50% slower than a typical paraffin wax candle because of their lower melting point, making them more cost-effective in the long run and allows more time with your favourite candle! Soy wax candles not only last longer than paraffin wax candles but they burn more evenly, so you won't waste any wax.

Soy wax candles have a better scent throw than paraffin wax candles, meaning that their fragrance is released more effectively, filling your room with its wonderful scent. They also hold their scent better, so you can enjoy their fragrance in your home for longer.

Soy candle wax will wash away with warm water which makes it super easy to repurpose your vessel after your candle has burned down. This makes our Santa’s Sleigh Luxury Christmas Candle votive easily reusable for other candles, or as a beautiful decoration.

What is a typical paraffin candle?

Most candles are created with paraffin, which is derived from petroleum. The burning of petroleum is shown to emit harmful vapours and produce carcinogens which can cause respiratory problems - as well as causing smoke damage to your home. No one wants that!

Contrastly, paraffin wax is a bi-product of the refinery process for petroleum oil therefore non-renewable and non-environmentally friendly.

Candle Care

Soy wax candles are much more delicate than paraffin candles and should therefore be treated in a different way. Avoid placing your soy wax candle near direct sunlight, as this can damage or discolour your candle, if you notice your candle begin to melt move it to a cooler area of your home.

It’s so important to us to not only create beautiful items to live in your home for years to come, but also to create items that you can feel good about too because of the way they’re made. Pure soy candle wax provides the longest and cleanest burn which is free from carcinogens, has excellent fragrance-holding qualities, is environmentally-friendly and sustainable… that all sounds pretty good to us!

From heart to home.
